Cádiz, 1986

Adrián Brenes was born in 1986 and began his dance training at the age of eight, when he started classes with La Truco. As a young dancer, he performed on many stages in his home province of Cádiz and won numerous prizes for Sevillanas and Alegrías.

At the age of fourteen, after two years away from dance, he recommenced classes with the leading teachers of the province: Milagros Ventura, Javier Marín, La Chiqui de Jerez, Daniel Torres, Pepa Mercé, Domingo Ortega, Charo Cruz, Olga Pericet, Juan Carlos Lérida and La Lupi, among others.

At the same time, wanting to extend his training further, he began to make regular visits to the prestigious Amor de Dios dance school in Madrid, where he studied with such teachers as María Juncal, Marina Claudio, Pepa Molina, Nuria Truco, Alfonso Losa, Dagmara Brown, Carmela Greco, Pedro Córdoba, Miguel CañasMarco Flores and Manuel Liñán; He also took the opportunity to study again with his first teacher and artistic ‘mother’, La Truco. As a result, he was able to perform as a freelance professional dancer, appearing in a wide range of venues in the province. In 2009, he joined the Compañia Ventura, and performed with them in  “Cositas Navideñas“, “De Ida y Vuelta“, “De Lunares” and “Vivencias“; all directed by Milagros Ventura.

At the beginning of 2012, Adrián took a step forward in his career when he co-directed the famous Shakespeare play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ with Jackie Cornwall at the San Francisco Theatre in Vejer de la Frontera. He choreographed and performed the dance sequences for this production and also made his first appearance as an actor.

At the end of 2012, he took part in the well-known flamenco pianist Manolo Carrasco’s new production ‘1812. Vive La Pepa’, which opened with highly successful performances in Cadiz and Seville. During the summer of 2013, Adrián performed in flamenco tablaos as part of the Compañia Ventura, as well as pursuing his career independently as a freelance dancer. In February 2014, he moved to Madrid, where he is now based.

In June 2014, Adrián made his first international appearances with the company Flamenco Express, performing in the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall among other places.

During the summer of 2014, Adrián performed in tablaos with the Compañía Ventura as well as a variety of other engagements, including a residency with the Grupo El Fuerte hotel chain and appearances at the Peñas Flamenca Conil de la Frontera and La Perla de Cádiz. In October, he made a second tour of the UK, teaching and performing in Cardiff, London and Brighton. In December 2014, he joined Alba Flamenca in Edinburgh for a short season.

During 2015, Adrián performed at the flamenco tablao Casa Patas in Madrid, and appeared with Flamenco Express and the Bristol Peña Flamenca, making numerous successful appearances in London and elsewhere in the UK. He spent the autumn of 2015 in London, where he joined the Royal Opera House as an actor and dancer in their production of Francesca Zambello’s production of Bizet’s Carmen.

Adrián is now based in Madrid, where he holds classes at the Instituto Flamenco La Truco. His reputation continues to grow and he is currently negotiating both national and international contacts for the forthcoming year.
